Scholarships
The objective of this award is to recognize an entire employee crew of a WCO member that has demonstrated and contributed to the safe, efficient and profitable operation of the enterprise.
The goal of this award is to recognize an entire crew that has made significant contributions in safety, efficiency, customer satisfaction, environmental stewardship, community involvement, and profitability of a custom farming or custom harvest operation. This award is particularly focused on acknowledging and recognizing a crew that goes beyond normal job expectations.
The crew – made up of both full-time and part-time – of a WCO member – are eligible to participate in the annual award selection process.
Nominations are to be made by the employing WCO member using the Outstanding Employee Crew Nomination form found on the WCO website (www.wiscustomoperators.org).
Nominations may be submitted by email to info@wiscustomoperators.org or by mail to WCO: PO Box 567, DeForest, WI 53532 by December 1st. The WCO Scholarship and Awards Committee will be comprised of at least three Board members. The Committee as a whole will review applicants in December and contact the recipient by January 1st.
WCO member employee crews are to be nominated for the award in a written narrative by the employing WCO member. The crew should meet at least three out of the six criteria listed below. But feel free to provide information for any and all of the criteria.
Professionalism:
Please describe how the crew demonstrates above average knowledge of their job responsibilities and delivers job performance and services well beyond the expected norm. It is helpful to give examples of how the nominated crew acknowledges and takes pride in ownership of the day-to-day operation of the business.
Customer Focus:
Please share how the nominated exhibits professionalism by consistently recognizing and meeting the needs and requirements of the customer. Provide a few examples of how the nominated crew exceeded customer expectations.
Safety: Safety is a vital aspect of any custom farming business. Please illustrate how the nominated crew consistently uses safe practices during the execution of their assignments, for instance by providing examples of safety improvements or practices suggested or developed.
Teamwork: Any custom farming operation requires a strong ethic of teamwork. Please provide examples of how the nominated crew has demonstrated the spirit of teamwork so that a collective effort is made in accomplishing the business objectives.
Innovation:
Has the nominated crew developed an original idea or suggestion that has a positive effect on the business? Please provide some examples of innovations that improved the safety, efficiency or profitability of the business operation.
Community Involvement:
Involvement in organizations beyond the business helps rural communities thrive. Please describe how members of the nominated crew have helped the greater community, for instance with FFA alumni events, volunteering with community fire or emergency programs, etc.
The crew will be honored with custom sweatshirts and gift cards totaling $1,000, divided evenly among the entire crew. The award presentation will take place at the WCO Annual Meeting in February at the annual Forage Symposium.
